Halloween & Bern's 68th

What a lovely weekend we had! We went out early Friday morning to pick up a few groceries, not the least of which was the Halloween pumpkin. Of course, Bern did his usual good job carving a jack-o-lantern face on it.

Penny and Howard arrived around noon - after getting lost yet again! I don't know how they do it - it's so easy to find us. We think they just get chatting so much that they miss the turn off. There has been some construction on the highway, but there is a 2 km warning to the 406 turn. Oh well, they found their way eventually and came bearing bags of candy for the kids.

Penny and I spent the afternoon working on her scrapbook. While we were printing off some pictures, my printer ran out of one of its colors so we couldn't continue. I finished Bern's birthday card and started on a "Thinking of You" card for Cassie. Bern and Howard both napped mostof the afternoon.

After a yummy dinner of beef stew and homemade bread, the little ones started arriving at the door all decked out in really cute and creative costumes. Howard and Penny got such a kick out of answering the door, we just let them. Bern very kindly gave up his special Halloween hat to Howard. It was so funny! The kids must have wondered at all us senior citizens peering at them from our front door!!

Once the traffic let up, we sat down to play "Hand and Foot" - guys against the girls. The guys beat us by 555 points. We had so much fun - what a great game!

Saturday was Bern's birthday, and he made us all a nice breakfast of peameal bacon and eggs. Penny and I went over to the mall (Winners, of course) - she bought herself a new housecoat and pajamas and me new pajamas - nice, cozy winter pajamas. Then we went over to Staples to pick up ink cartridges for my printer. On the way home, we stopped in to Tim Horton's for coffee and muffins. It was really great to just sit and chat - you know, girl talk. She's extremely happy and she and Howard have decided to make a life together. They're even looking at houses! We're both very pleased, too.

Saturday night, we went out for dinner to celebrate Bern's birthday. We went to the Urban Steakhouse and Grill in Font Hill again. This is the third time the four of us have been there. After dinner, we came back and played another game of cards. This time, Pen and I beat the guys by over 3,000 points - GIRL POWER! They left this morning to get ready for their 2-week cruise.

Bern cut the grass again and then we went out for awhile to pick up a few little things at Home Hardware. Bern wanted to check how much the lumber is going to cost to put up shelving in the basement. It turns out it won't be too expensive. I think we might concentrate on getting his study fixed up first, though. We just need some paint and carpet cleaning stuff. His desk is currently in the garage and just needs to be put back together.

So, now we're sitting here quietly watching TV and enjoying the quiet. This week, I have a doctor appointment for my annual checkup. Bern came home from hunting with a violent rash all over his upper torso - he thinks it was probably heat rash from sleeping in a small camper heated by a little wood stove. Anyway, it made him make an appointment to see our doctor. During the exam, Dr. Alberts took his blood pressure and was not happy that it was quite high - so she put him on medication for that - and medication for the rash (which she's not sure what caused it). He goes back December 1st at which time, he will undergo his annual physical.

Now that we're all up to date...oh, no...I forgot - it turns out that my mother has ended up with not one, but three, computers! None of them are able to support an internet connection! RATS! I was really looking forward to being able to send her emails and pictures - I know she was looking forward to it, too. Okay, that's all for now.
