I had made an apple pie and a big macaroni and cheese on Saturday. I did the menu, made the shopping list and Bern basically did everything else. We had ham, fried chicken, his wonderful rice with mushrooms and onions, roasted potatoes/carrots/onions, mashed potatoes, asparagus, garden salad. It really was good. Paul, Heather and David are all vegetarian and they said everything was wonderful, too. We sent home a huge shopping bag full of leftovers with James. After tea and dessert (we forced ourselves!), everybody packed up and left for home - it was just after 8:00. Bern did all the dishes, too....and there were a mountain of them!

All of our friends and relatives who've come to know our friends, Judy and Herman are so shocked by her illness and are praying for her. I talked to Judy on Saturday. She was scheduled to have a stint put in to clear a blockage in her colon (caused by the cancer) on Wednesday. After sitting in the waiting room for 5 hours (there was an emergency) and having not had anything to eat or drink for 30 hours, she was pretty tired, in pain, and upset. Then, she said the precedure itself was horrendous - she was awake throughout. Now, she says she doesn't dare stray too far from the bathroom - that's tiring, too. She says she's really sick of looking at her bathroom! Not only that, Herman picked up a bug, had a massive headache and was throwing up. She said she thinks they must have really ticked off the universe!! Please take a few minutes to pray for them as they struggle through this time.
I also talked to my friend/sister Jackie in the hospital in Espanola. Jimmy gave me the number after I called him for an update. You could hear the strain in his voice as he told me they almost lost her. If she hadn't gone to the hospital when he tricked her into going, she might already be in Heaven! Anyway, after suffering total kidney shutdown, they are starting to bring the kidney function back a bit. She is seeing a specialist today who may decide to send her to the hospital in Sudbury for more tests. Remember I told you her doctor had prescribed medicine to lower her blood pressure in January, which caused her kidneys to malfunction? Well, Jackie says since she's been in the hospital and off the medication, her blood pressure has been normal!!! Makes you wonder if she should have been on that drug in the first place, doesn't it? She totally appreciates our prayers - thank you so much!
Got an email from Karen, too. She seems to be doing better every day - Praise the Lord! She went for the pulmonary function test last week. The respirologist gave her a puffer to use when needed and out of breath. He doesn't think she has asthma but he is sending her for a bronchial challenge test as a precaution to make sure which is in July and she is going to Cardiologist in May. Ashley is riding for her little sister, Courtney who fought cancer at the age of 16 - and won!
One more - my niece, Liz (out in Wolf Point) is expecting her baby girl in May, but she has been experiencing lots and lots of discomfort lately, even to the point of going to the hospital the other night thinking the baby was on her way out - false alarm, but scary nonetheless. Please remember her in your prayers, too! I love you all so much!!!
