Christmas Day
We had a wonderful Christmas! We got up early, I made a pumpkin pie, finished last minute cards for the gang and wrapping. We arrived at James' apartment around 3:00 and spent an hour with him. His apartment is looking good and he had his Christmas tree up and decorated.
His buddies had been over the night before and they all exchanged gifts. James' boss gave him $100 and a gift basket of goodies. Another friend gave him a nice shirt (see picture) and he got a few other things. His plan was to go "boxing day" shopping for a new couch.
We went to Fran and Mike's just after 4:00. Jan, Paul, Kate and David arrived within minutes of us. We enjoyed some appetizers and then opened our "secret Santa" gifts. It was so much fun! I got a beautiful shawl and Bern got a moose mug and coaster from Bass Pro and also a little multi-tool that clips onto your key chain. It morphs into eight different tools. Very cool. James got a head light - no, really! He was thrilled and said it would come in very handy at work! He also got a gift box of sauces, cheeses and crackers.
Dinner was spectacular! Everything was sooooo tasty. Fran made a sweet potato dish which was topped with toasted pecans. It was awesome! She also served the tradition turkey and stuffing plus ham with a lovely spicy orange sauce. After supper, we played a game I saw on the Bonnie Hunt show awhile back called "Ask Dr. KnowItAll". Someone asks a question of Dr. KnowItAll and then each person is allowed to say only one word in turn to answer the question. It was a scream - we laughed so hard!
Fran got a domino game for Christmas from the Johnson's. It's a game we often play at the cottage called Mexican Railroad. We girls played a couple of games so Fran could refresh her memory of how to play it - it's great fun! Paul and David went home early and Bern and Mike watched TV for awhile. Katie was next to go home leaving Fran, Jan, Heather and I to enjoy a last cup of tea before calling it a night.
The next morning, Fran made us a delicious breakfast and she and I retired to the family room to watch a movie called "The Ugly Truth". We turned it off about halfway through! Don't waste your time or money on this one!!! Well, we packed up and headed to Mississauga to spend the afternoon with Lon and Karen and their family.
When we got there, they told us they were expecting us to stay overnight so we brought in our suitcase and settled in. What a great time we had!!!
