The painting has been completed and it looks great! It's completely different from when we moved in. The existing paint throughout the house was a pinkish beige colour. We've gone for more earthy colours and it's really nice.
We had visitors on Wednesday! Fran, Mike, Maggie and Heather arrived around 1:30 and squeals of delight abounded. I'm not too sure what they were expecting, but this was a pleasant surprise to everyone. After the grand tour, we had lunch together....sandwiches, shrimp, deviled eggs, veggies and dip and for dessert, apple pie and ice cream - yummy!
Fran needs some prayer coverage during the next couple of months. She had some surgery which uncovered some cancer cells in one breast. Until the sutures heal, the doctors won't be able to take more tissue samples. At this point, they are saying the cancer isn't the dangerous kind, but it's still a worry until she gets the "all clear". It's been a very scary time for her and her family.
Our new dining room set arrived today - minus the chairs. Hopefully, they will show up tomorrow. I've never had a real dining room set of my own. We inherited Bern's mother's dining room when she had to go into the chronic care hospital. It was a nice set, but was very dated - 50's-ish. So, we decided that was one of the things we would buy with the profit from the sale of our house in Oakville. The other thing was Bern's ride-on lawn mower. It's a real beauty and is lovingly ensconced in the garage. Bern is just waiting for the grass to turn green and grow so he can go outside and play. He's a happy man!!!
We talked to James the other night. He sounds good. Says he might start thinking about getting someone to share the apartment, giving him some extra money in his pocket. Seems like a good idea to me. It's not forever and if it helps for now, it makes sense (or cents). Anyway, he hasn't seen this house yet and we're anxious for him to come to visit. He's going to see if he can get a couple of days in a row off work (Sunday/Monday), then Bern will pick him (and Emily) up after work on Saturday night and bring them here for a couple of days. I miss him very much.
We went out today to look at light fixtures for the dining room. We saw one we both liked, so Bern will go out tomorrow to pick it up while I put all our little knick-knacks, dishes, teacups and odds and ends in the new china cabinet. It's one of those things I need to do slowing on my own.
Well, that's all the news for now. The weather is supposed to start warming up - 10 tomorrow and Sunday. All the snow has finally melted!! What a long, long winter that was.
